Ryan’s pedagogical interests lie at the intersection between cultural music and choral singing. He currently serves as Project Manager for PODIUM 2024, Canada’s biennial national conference, hosted in Montréal by Choral Canada and the Alliance chorale du Québec. In addition to administrative work with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Ryan sits on the board of the Vermont Academy of Choral Music.
Ryan currently sings with VB8, an octet formed from Montréal’s professional choir Voces Boreales, the Toronto Mendelssohn Singers, Ensemble ArtChoral, and the Schola of St. Joseph’s Oratory, among others. He also served a two-year term as apprentice conductor of the Chœur St-Laurent / St Lawrence Choir as recipient of the Iwan Edwards Mentorship for Young Conductors.
Ryan's conducting collaborations include Pro Coro Canada, McGill University’s Schulich Singers and University Chorus, the Varna International Music Academy, the Delaware Choral Academy, University of Delaware Lyric Theater, conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, and with the Vermont Chamber Artists.
Ryan received the M.Mus. in Choral Conducting from McGill University's Schulich School of Music under the instruction of Jean-Sébastien Vallée, Hilary Apfelstadt, and Gabrielle Gaudreault. He received the Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Delaware under instruction from Paul Head, Duane Cottrell, Sunmin Yoon, and more.
